The Lunar Foundation, in conjunction with the Lunar Republic Society, has announced that a crater near the Apollo 11 landing site on the Moon has been named in honor of fabled CBS Evening News anchor and space enthusiast Walter Cronkite.
The crater, previously designated as Sabine C, is located in the southern Sea of Tranquility. It is adjacent to craters previously named for the Apollo 11 crew members Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.
